ABOUT SMITH FARMING CORP
At Smith Farming Corp., we’re passionate about growing great crops and doing right by the people we do business with.

Steve and Jane Smith began farming on their own in 1971. Through the challenges of the 1980s farm crisis, the operation continued to grow, and their two children grew up alongside it. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1994, their son Brad returned home to farm full-time with his parents.
​
In 1995, Steve, Jane, and Brad formed Smith Farming Corp. as a family business. The following year, they began working with Asgrow and DEKALB, selling seed as agricultural technology continued to advance.
​
The Smith family has continued to grow alongside the farm. Brad and Sara raised four children, all of whom are now adults pursuing careers of their own. In 2025, their son Nick graduated from the University of Illinois and returned home to join the family operation.

Nick’s experience at Illinois deepened his interest in sustainability and conservation. Today, he is helping the farm adapt its methods to meet the goals of new programs focused on responsible, sustainable, and efficient farming practices.
